Tierra Hamer Dies After High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Tragedy: Woman Submerged in Broad River After Fleeing from Deputies in Columbia, Richland County Authorities Investigate Fatal Incident

Terrible Wednesday afternoon, a high-speed pursuit in Columbia, South Carolina, claimed the life of 28-year-old Tierra Hamer after she fled from deputies by driving her car into the Broad River. The neighborhood was shocked by the incident, which entailed a chase after a rumored domestic fight and sparked concerns about what transpired in Hamer’s last minutes.

The events started at 1630 Longcreek Drive, which is located off Broad River Road, at around 1:00 p.m., when Richland County deputies responded to a complaint regarding a domestic argument. A man reported that Tierra Hamer had hit him with her automobile and was trying to run him over again, leading to the 911 call. Law enforcement reacted immediately to the charges due of their importance; however, upon their arrival, they discovered that Hamer was making an attempt to escape.

Hamer was in her car and trying to get away when the deputies arrived on the scene. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department claims that after judging that Hamer might endanger public safety, deputies began a pursuit. As Hamer raced through the streets, the pursuit intensified rapidly, and she eventually arrived at Omarest Drive’s dead end. What followed would be the sad conclusion of a scenario that was already tense. Desperate to avoid being caught by the police, Hamer drove her car through the dead end and straight into the swift-moving Broad River.

The scenario became even more serious as her car reached the river. A dive crew, along with deputies and emergency personnel, jumped into action, desperate to save the woman who was stranded in her flooded automobile. Deputies’ testimony and eyewitness reports paint a vivid picture of the chaotic situation as they desperately searched for Hamer in the dark waters. The dive team searched for Hamer’s body for more than an hour and a half, but they were unable to find him underwater.

A desperate and painful search came to an end when her lifeless body was found. Deputies tried promptly to revive Hamer with medical help, but their attempts were eventually unsuccessful. Authorities and her family had to deal with the tragic result after she was declared dead at the site. “We will continue to support the family and our deputies, and our hearts are heavy with this loss of life,” the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said in an official statement released after the incident.
