Zachary Bourassa Cause of Death: Zachary Bourassa, a 21-year-old goaltender from Quebec, passed away unexpectedly over the weekend from cardiac arrest.
During the last game of a Dekhockey (ball hockey) tournament in Trois-Rivières, Bourassa tragically passed away after a heart arrest. Prior to it, he participated in 27 NCJHL games between 2017 and 2022, where he was crowned champion in 2018 with the Papineauville Vikings.
According to Marco Normandin, the incident occurred early in the match. Zachary motioned for help when he felt sick, then collapsed into an official’s arms. Regretfully, resuscitation efforts performed on the spot failed to save him, even though a nurse and a respiratory therapist gave it their all.
The suddenness of the occurrence has left the dekhockey community and those in it shocked and devastated. Witnesses recounted the horrific event and the efforts made to save the young athlete.
