In Loving Memory Of Michaela Deprince – the iconic dancer and author, Michaela DePrince

We here at JTP are deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of the iconic dancer and author, Michaela DePrince. Our heartfelt condolences go out to those closest to her during this incredibly difficult time.

The dance world has lost a true gem, and Michaela’s light, grace, and strength will forever be missed. Rest in power, Michaela Mabinty DePrince, your legacy will continue to inspire generations.
From her team:

“With pain in our hearts, we share the loss of star ballerina Michaela Mabinty DePrince, whose artistry touched countless hearts and whose spirit inspired many, leaving an indelible mark on the world of ballet, and beyond.”

Born in war-torn Sierra Leone, Michaela rose from unimaginable adversity, finding her passion for ballet after being adopted by a loving family in the U.S. She went on to become the youngest principal dancer at the Dance Theatre of Harlem before moving to the Dutch National Ballet, and later Boston Ballet. Her story of resilience was shared in her memoir, Taking Flight: From War Orphan to Star Ballerina, and she used her platform as an Ambassador for War Child Holland, advocating for children affected by war and violence. Michaela was also known for her charity gala, Dare to Dream, which focused on the well-being and mental health of children in conflict zones.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones. @michaeladeprince @bostonballet
