Death: Joshua Arnold, Suspect Who Killed Russell County Deputy Josh Phipps Identified

The identity of the individual who opened fire on a Russell County Sheriff’s Deputy on Monday during a gunfight in Kentucky has been revealed.

On Bluebird Drive in Russell Springs, Kentucky, 41-year-old Joshua Arnold and deputies from the Russell County Sheriff’s Office engaged in gunfire.

Both the suspect, Josh Arnold, and deputy Josh Phipps perished in the gunshot.

The suspect fled on Bluebird Drive in Russell Springs, and the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, the Kentucky State Police, and other agencies were searching for him.

After pursuing the guy to a mobile home, Phipps and other officers opened fire.

After being shot, Phipps was taken to a nearby hospital, where he passed away. Additionally, the suspect—later revealed to be Joshua Arnold—was shot.

Additionally, he was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

A memorial was held for Phipps Tuesday at which friends, family members and neighbors turned up to pay their respects outside the county courthouse.

Russell County Sheriff Derek Polston said, “He died a hero and I just want everybody to remember the family in prayers.”

Retired officer Tracey Vantassell added, “It’s like losing a member of your family because are all one big family.”
