32-year-old Rebecca Hughes, Three Children and Herself In Wolcotville Murder-Suicide – Father Says in Fundraiser

The Noble County Coroner has identified the woman and her three daughters who were discovered dead in a Wolcottville, Indiana, house on Tuesday.

Officers from the Wolcottville Police Department discovered the bodies of 32-year-old Rebecca Hughes and her three daughters, Evalynn Newell, 8, Allison Newell, 6, and Amelia Newell, 5, at a home south of County Line Road, which is where Main Street turns into Kelly Street.

The children’s father, Jonathan Newell of Kendallville, disclosed in a GoFundMe that he started that their deaths were a murder-suicide, despite the coroner withholding the reason and manner of death.

“My name is Jonathan Newell,” stated Jonathan Newell on GoFundMe. These are Evalynn, Ally, and Mia, my daughters. Help with the three of their funeral expenses is needed. These kids deserve so much more than what I can afford for their funerals—I don’t ask for aid. When their mother, Rebecca, passed away on September 17, 2024, she took them with her. Everything helps, if you can. I am able to make payments if you need them later. Whatever it takes, I’ll do it.

Following the horrific event, friends, family, and neighbors organized a tiny memorial for the girls. Reminders, flowers, and candles were placed on the home’s steps.

The girls’ play will be missed, according to the neighbors.

The girls were lovely little girls that I would frequently see having fun on the trampoline. Just here in the middle of the hilarity and now complete quiet, the dog was barking and playing with them, according to Wolcottville resident Pam Laughlin.
